York Karate made the journey across the Pennines to compete at the Manchester Youth Championships. It turned out to be another frustrating day for the squad and despite some great performances, again fell short of the medals.
York did win two medals, with Sam and Emily (left) winning silver in pairs kata and Anya and Cameron (right) winning bronze. Both pairs lost to the same pair from Yanagi Kai who went on to win gold, but York certainly made them work for it.
Maurice made it into the quarter finals with an excellent performance, showing he is really starting to develop into an excellent fighter, and Japhet had an eventful time making it all the way through to the quarter finals. Both made it through two rounds which would,at most other competitions, have put them in the medals.
The difference between winning a medal and coming close to winning is very small. The squad is now getting ready for the final competition of the year at the JKS England Nationals in Nottingham next month.
