Returning to training

Returning to training safely is our first priority.

We are very keen to return to training but we must ensure that we do this safely and responsibly.

Following the government guidelines, the English Karate Federation produced a 'return to play' document which was approved by Sport England and the Department of Health. In accordance with this documentation, and the stipulations made by the facilities we hire, we have produced a risk assessment and an action plan on how we will train safely. This has led to a number of changes which are detailed below. Please read them carefully before completing the booking form.

Return to Training Action Plan (Approved by the York Karate Welfare Committee)

Whilst we are all keen to return to training, it is important that we put the safety of participants first and do everything we can to stay alert, control the virus and save lives.

Consequently, we have put the following action plan into place:

Booking classes

To support the government’s track and trace program, you are required to book your classes.

Switching classes, or attending classes you have not booked for, will not be permitted due to restrictions on the number of students training.

Before setting off to class

Check if you have one, or more, of the following symptoms in the last 14 days, or you have come into contact with someone who has either tested positive or had one or more of the following symptoms in the last 14 days:

  • A new and continuous cough

  • High temperature

  • A loss, or change, of taste.

If you have, do not attend training.

Thoroughly wash hands before leaving your home.

Arriving at class

  • Consider finding safe ways to reach the venue

  • If using public transport, please ensure you comply with guidance of wearing a face covering

  • Avoid sharing vehicles where possible

  • Arrive at the venue no earlier than 5 minutes before the start of the class and if the venue isn’t open, wait in your vehicle if possible or maintain social distance

  • Family members to remain in vehicle and are not to enter the building

Entering the building

  • Please use the hand sanitiser upon entering

  • Only class participants will be permitted to enter the building

  • A register will be taken at every class in-line with Track & Trace guidance

During training

  • Social distance of 2+ meters will be maintained throughout.

  • All participants should arrive changed and ready to start the session

  • No equipment will be shared between students

  • Shouting and loud talking will be kept to a minimum.

Leaving the building

  • When leaving, ensure social distance is maintained.

  • All participants to leave promptly and refrain from gathering in groups

  • Travelling companions to remain in their vehicles

If we all follow these measures, we can do our best to reduce the spread of the virus whilst enjoying our karate training.

Our Risk Assessment details what actions we will take as a club to make the environment as safe as possible.

All actions are being taken in accordance with the English Karate Federation and in conjunction with the facility providers.

The timetable has significantly changed. You can find the new timetable here

The grade split of classes has also been changed to accommodate the lower numbers we must accept per class. We now have

  • Under 8's

  • Beginner

  • Intermediate

  • Advanced

  • Black and Brown belts

There is some overlap within these categories. To understand more about this new structure, please click here
